Connor the Fish

We've been going to the pool a lot lately and I think it's going to be our summer thing.  Brayden has fun walking around, occasionally getting into the water, and munching on snacks.  Connor has turned into quite the swimmer.  He taught himself!  It's amazing how much he's changed since last year, not even daring to put his head under water.  It's those Hawaii raised years coming out in him.  He tells anyone and every one, including strangers, around the pool to watch him.  Here's a video of him (they just whistled for adult swim that's why I made him get out. Oh and you may want to turn the volume down a little)...

Cutest $2.40 spent

One good thing about Hobby Lobby dragging out their fall and Christmas stuff in the middle of JUNE is that most of the spring/summer stuff is on clearance.

I ran across a metal birdhouse on clearance 80% off.  What would have cost $11.99 came to a whopping $2.40 (if it was the other price, I wouldn't have purchased it).  We have an unknown tree landscaped close to the front of our home and I knew it would be perfect on it.  (I think that the tree may be a crape myrtle but an absence of summer flowers might diminish that hypothesis) I wonder if any birds will make it their home?

My hosta sprouted a bloom.  Yay for a success at not killing it these first few months
.

Also, last week I really wished to be an environmentalist.  A side of me was so sad to see the expansion of our neighborhood into the fields behind our home.  It's been such a beautiful sight to look out upon.  And from our encounters, it will be sad to see the homes of the deer and turkeys taken away.
I think our next home will be more secluded and country like.

Father's Day

I didn't have a positive father figure in my childhood and my biological father was absent from my life growing up.  Father's day was never a special day for me for the obvious reasons.

When we had our first son, that's when the holiday formed a meaning to me.  Our boys are very fortunate to have such a loving and terrific father.  Through their adoration and the love they give him, I know that they know it too in their hearts.  My sons will one day have children and I believe with all that is in me that they will be outstanding fathers because of the love and guidance they have from their Daddy.

The Summer Scene

The local winery here hosts a "jazz on the lawn" every other Saturday.  I knew of some my friends going last year but I'm not one into "jazz" and I'm no wine connoisseur  so it didn't appeal to me.  Until one of them told me I had to go.  We did and my husband loves it.  I do too because of the great company.  It really is a fun family way to enjoy a nice relaxing summer night.  Here's some pictures I took of the scenery...

Connor-ism #389 & Bray-doings #101

I haven't done these in a long time!  Mostly due to two noisemakers, I tend to tune things out (horrible mom, I know).

At lunch, C reminded me of this conversation he had with his great aunt.
C: "When I'm done eating dinner, please can I have a cookie?"
Aunt S: "What's the magic word?" (obviously didn't hear it in his question)
C: "Abra cadabra!"

In the car on the way to a store this week, C out of no where said:
"Hey mom. Look at me. When I grow up and I'm an a-dult (he says 'a' instead of 'ah'), I don't want to drink alcohol.  I just want to drink soda."

B doesn't say a lot of words.  But he does do strange and adorable things.  His nightly quirk is that when I give him his kisses (he calls it "mah"), he insists I kiss all his boo boos (when some are visible and even when they aren't).  He will hold out his left hand and sadly say "boo boo. Mah" until I kiss it. Then the right and continue onto one of his knees, holding it up while saying pitifully, "Boo boo. Mah."

First Big House Project

*Updated with lots more pics (because I know you love before and afters like me)*

The inevitable day arrived...fence and deck staining day.  We just couldn't put it off any longer.  Areas of the fresh wood were starting to grey.  And of course we chose to start it in the afternoon on a very hot weekend.

We agreed on a redwood color.  I wanted more of a natural cedar and he wanted a darker reddish tone.  So we met in the middle and I think it looks great, doesn't add too much more red to the red accents already on & around the outside of our house.

And my picky husband actually let me stain 3/4ths of one long side!

Now to enjoy the rest of summer on the deck with lots of bbq'ing.  And note to selves: re-stain in cool spring weather next year!

Cool Down

We were invited to a birthday party today at the playground/splash park.  Perfect place during this hot weather (today's high is going to be 93).  The boys had a blast.
