Welcome Autumn
We've had a few fall temperatures lately and it feels great to have the windows open in the house. Fall is my favorite season and like every year, September 1st I pulled out my fall decor. Just a few things here and there to help the home feel warm and cozy.

Adios Boring Backyard
When we moved into our brand new home, the backyard was a blank canvas.
Both Mr A and I had zero experience with yard work other than mowing a lawn. I had a cursed green thumb but dreamed of a yard full of flowers. We are slowly getting there with our landscaping skills and I have managed to kill less and less plants. As a family, we rarely ever went into our backyard. There just wasn't anything to do. All the boys toys were in the garage so most days were spent out front (which holds the largest amount of yard for our home anyway). However, the backyard was super ideal for the kids because it was enclosed. So I got the bright idea of maybe getting a play set. When I mentioned it to Mr A he was excited and ready to get one that second (that's one way we differ, I'm a planner and he's Mr Spontaneity). Memorial Day weekend we found one at Walmart for $399. Seems pricey but it was actually on the lower end of play set prices.
9 hours of assembly! In the hot sun. With two anxious children. It was not fun to say the least. We finally finished a little after dark so the boys had to wait until the next day to play. And they did not forget because both were up before 7 am ready to check it out!
For the past week it has brought hours and hours of fun. And our backyard has become a hangout for neighborhood friends.
My last trip to Illinois, my aunt sent me home with break offs of some of her plants from her yard. I had Jeremy make a little area for them in a corner of our yard by the deck and in a place where I can see them from inside the kitchen. I have high hopes for this little garden, but probably next year I'll make it look nicer. Right now I'm just hoping I can help the plants survive the summer. They haven't done anything but that, survive. I'm sure they are in shock and I know next year they will really flourish. I did purchase a clematis (on the trellis) and a few may night salvia and they, too, haven't done anything but I have faith.

Little Boys' Dream
Tractors, trucks, trailers, and dirt. All of the things little boys are drawn to are taking place right past our backyard. The extension of our neighborhood is taking off. B & C are constantly looking out our windows to supervise the activity, and watching the tractors has become daily entertainment during lunch.
I knew it was inevitable that home building would continue to increase, but I must say I sure miss the early days in this home where there was space and fields between our house and the next. I miss the groups of deer and turkeys, both which seem a thing of the past. And it's sad to hear your 5 year old say, "They are tearing down the trees! Where are the animals going to live? They are killing their homes!" A harsh part of reality.
A positive side of the addition of homes has been receiving neighbors. And boy, do we have some wonderful neighbors (so far). The boys are very lucky to have lots of little ones to play with. In 8 of the surrounding homes, 6 of them have children, ranging from newborn to 16 years old (11 kids, including our 2).

It's Official...
Fall is here! It sure feels like it with this 68 degree weather. Starbucks has released their Pumpkin Spice Latte (I have yet to get one). Target and Walmart need to get on the bandwagon! Surprisingly they are just now dragging out the autumn decor. Hello! Get with it people.
Fall decor is officially up in the home. Went this year with subtle and simple. It's scattered in random places, but here's some major spots:
The outside is slowly being decorated, I guess I'm with Target and Walmart on that one.
AND somebody has a birthday in 2 days!!! B will be officially 2 and will finally act his age (the terrible twos).
A fellow Army wife whom I met while stationed in Hawaii has started crocheting hats. I asked her if she could make an owl one for him and she did wonderful!
