Sew easy pillows

After a phase of over 1 1/2 years, I am starting to embrace C's dinosaur phase.  I have been very reluctant because I absolutely loved the train phase and wanted it badly to return.  Instead the dinosaurs have stayed and don't seem to be getting old any time soon.  Of course with new shows on tv, like "Dino Dan," "Dinosaur Train," etc, it just feeds the fascination.

The boys and I were at TJ Maxx the other day and I came across dinosaur pillowcases that color coordinate with C's room and were subtly cute.  $5 to spare, I snatched them up.  Got them out of their package only to find this:

Not sure if it's just me, but the direction that the dinos are going on the pillow would absolutely drive me nuts (they're the wrong way!).  Therefore I decided to turn them into throw pillows, probably cuter anyway.

Ran to Hancock Fabric and bought these bad boys 50% off:

Broke out the sewing machine that has been banned from view after my 4 hour kitchen valance fiasco last year.  It must have missed me because it was very cooperative.

A naptime later, these were produced...

I made each pillow a different way.  The first one was a permanent type, where you make the cover and stuff in the pillow insert, closing by a hand stitch.  The hand stitching was too time consuming so after finding a tutorial online on how to make removable covers, I attempted my first one.  I must say it was a lot easier! And fits better than the other.  My mom showed me how to do it once but my retarded sewing mind couldn't quite grasp the concept without seeing it demonstrated again.  That's where this website came in handy: Super easy removable pillow cover

Voila! My $5 pillowcase dilemma was solved and I can look at the pillows without being bothered by dinosaur placement.  All in all, the 2 pillows ended up costing $13...that's the price of once throw pillow at Walmart. ;)
