First Sport, First Practice

I have been waiting for this day for quite some time.   Years to be exact.
Boys are commonly associated with sports.  They're rough and tough and full of energy, just like most sports.  I never thought of myself to be a "soccer mom," and I don't want to force my boys to be athletic because many just aren't and that's okay.  However, I have been super excited for the day to come when C was of age to participate in a sport.  It could be chess club and I'd still be this excited!  I'm so happy for him to interact with other kids and engage in playing as well as learning to work as a team.  This first practice was a learning experience for the both of us.  For C, the obvious reasons.  For me, I learned a little more about my son who I thought I knew extremely well, considering I spend pretty much 24/7 with the child (minus the 2 days of the 3 hours he is in preschool).  As I observed from a distance, I learned that my child doesn't listen to directions very well and can be a little intimidated with something he knows absolutely nothing about.  I'm okay with this though, because I see that he needs this and it will be a great, positive growing process for him.  The weirdest part is that I will be on the sidelines through this learning development; for the past 4 years I (along with my husband, of course) have been his "coach," the person teaching him most of everything he knows thus far. Now I will be watching someone else do it. This is the beginning steps of "letting go" and allowing him to become more of an independent child.   He's not a baby any more, that's for sure. :)
